Chapter Thirteen

Ronnie

I blink awake, wincing at the bright sunshine that is filling my room. The jackhammer in my head and the crushing weight on my chest makes me second-guess if I am actually alive or if I’ve woken up in Purgatory. I groan, stretching my arms out to my sides, and as my head creeps up so that I can see what happened to my torso, a pair of green eyes are assessing me from within a fuzzy abyss. Well, that explains the crushing of my chest. Axl glares at me as I wiggle my body, checking to be sure all of my appendages are intact. Once I confirm that they are indeed all still attached and that I have control over them, I shove Axl’s moody ass off of me, which earns me a hiss before he runs out of the room, hopefully to terrorize B.

I take caution while sitting up so that I don’t cause further damage to my aching head.

Fucking hell, I shouldn’t have drank so much last night.

A wave of nausea hits me once I’m upright. I need food, now.

I go to the bathroom to brush my teeth and tame my hair back into a high ponytail before hunting down the ibuprofen and a large glass of water. I look down to see that I’m wearing joggers and a baggy t-shirt, perfectly acceptable for brunch at Joe’s.

“Bett, you alive?”

Her bedroom door is open, so I walk in and sit on the edge of her bed.

“Hey, Sleeping Beauty, you wanna go eat at Joe’s?”

I shake her shoulder, and she reaches up to part her mane, uncovering her face to peer up at me.

“What?”

“Let’s go get some food.”

She sighs, repeating my morning stretches before sitting up much faster than I had.

“How are you feeling?” I ask, not believing that she’s having an easier time getting up than I did and wanting her to share in my misery.

“Fine?”

She scans me over and smirks.

“Have too much to drink last night?”

“Uh, yeah. Didn’t you?”

Bett shakes her head, “No, I only had the one shot that you and Jimmy brought back.”

I’m taken aback, impressed with her control last night.

“Yeah, well. I had way more than that and need food ASAP, so hurry up and get ready.”

She shakes her head at me, but throws her blankets back and kicks her feet over the edge.

I go back into the kitchen to get Axl’s food while she gets ready, and less than five minutes later, we’re out the door, walking down the street.

“You look like you had a lot of fun last night,” I comment.

“I sure did. Didn’t you?”

“Yeah, it was nice until the whole TK ordeal.”

Bett looks over at me, confused. I explain to her my name for Titty-Kitty and she’s soon doubled over in laughter.

“Oh my gosh, that’s fucking great!”

The brisk morning air is doing wonders to clear my head and wake me up, but I am more than eager to order once we walk through the door to the coffee shop. I
